Burlap Brights Block Hop: Day 3

Hello! I'm so excited to be a part of the Burlap Brights Blog Hop! My name is Alison and I blog at Little Bunny Quilts. I've been quilting for almost 12 years and have been blogging for the last 4 years. I also work with my mom and sister to design patterns for Honey, Bunny, and Doll! By day, I am a quality assurance auditor working for a non-profit bioassay company in the DC-Metro area (say that three times fast!). I am married to Park Ranger Husband who is a Civil War historian and we have a little bunny named Clara who loves to nibble on books.

This is my first time being a part of a fabric blog hop so I was very excited to be asked to participate! These fabrics are true, bright colors and they look remarkably like the texture of burlap -- without the roughness! While I made my block with just fabrics from the Burlap Brights grouping, they would be great blender fabrics with other lines because of their subtle texture and color variations! I especially liked the blue!

I decided to design my own rainbow star block and I hope that you like it!

Cutting:

Red: two (2) 3 inch squares

Orange: two (2) 3 inch squares

Yellow: one (1) 5 1/4 inch square, cut diagonally twice yielding four (4) triangles

Green: two (2) 5 1/4 inch square, cut diagonally twice yielding eight (8) triangles

Blue: four (4) 2 1/2 inch squares

Purple: four (4) 3 inch squares

Background:
One (1) 5 1/4 inch square cut diagonally twice yielding four (4) triangles
Four (4) 2 1/2 inch squares
Four (4) 3 inch squares

Draw diagonals on the back of your 3 inch background squares and pair with your purple 3 inch squares. Sew 1/4 inch from each side of the drawn diagonal and cut apart on the diagonal. Press and trim to 2.5 inches. You will need eight (8) purple and white HST units.

Lay out your corner units as shown below -- each one should have one white 2.5 inch square, one blue 2.5 inch square, and two purple/white HST units. Sew together -- you will need four total corner units.

Repeat the HST making process with your red and orange squares to yield four (4) red/orange HST units. Lay out as shown and sew into one pinwheel unit for the center of your block.

For each of your side units you will need one white triangle, one yellow triangle, and two green triangles. Sew together into pairs and then sew your pairs together. Don't forget to trim off the dog ears! You will need to make four (4) side units.

Now that you've made all of your units (corner, side, and center) lay them out as shown below.

And sew together for your final rainbow star block!
