Mug Rug Blog Hop: Day 4

This week we're hosting the Mug Rug Blog Hop!
In celebration of fall, a season filled with mugs of apple cider, tea, and even hot cocoa, we have four different bloggers sharing a mug rug design they've created with one of our new fabric lines.

BYOM (bring your own mug), but we'll provide the mug rug inspiration, as well as fabric giveaways!

Today Alison from Little Bunny Quilts is sharing a cute mug rug made using Cherry Guidry's Kitchen Love collection. If you haven't seen these prints, you'll love them! Alison drew inspiration from the fabric and her kitchen, even using a common utensil as her applique template. Have fun with this mug rug, and then head over to Alison's blog to enter for a chance to win a bundle of Kitchen Love!

Hello! I'm Alison from Little Bunny Quilts, and I am happy to be back here at Sew In Love With Fabric sharing a quick and easy tutorial for a mug rug today!

I decided to use the Kitchen Love line, because I love to cook and bake. The prints are just darling in this collection! And as a little twist, this mug rug could also be used as a washable spoon rest!

You will need:

Some sort of fusible web -- I use Wonder Under
Fat quarters of your fabrics -- I used four different fabrics

Using your favorite kitchen utensil, lay on your fusible web and trace. I used a wooden spoon.

Iron your fusible web template to your chosen fabric and trim to the correct shape.

Cut a rectangle for the front 4" x 8", cut a backing rectangle 5" x 9".

Remove the backing paper from the fusible web and iron onto your 4" x 8" rectangle.

Use a satin stitch to sew around the edges of your utensil. I used orange!

Layer your backing rectangle, a batting scrap (mine was 4.5" x 8.5") and quilt as desired. I did diagonal lines across my piece.

Trim your mug rug and bind as desired. I cut my binding strips at 2.25" wide.

Enjoy your new spoon rest/mug rug!

Perfect with a muffin and a mug too!

Head over to Alison's blog to be entered for a chance to win a fat quarter bundle of Kitchen Love.

Make sure to catch all of the tutorials in our Mug Rug Blog Hop!

Cherry Guidry's Kitchen Love

If you're a fan of all things homemade (especially sweet treats!), you'll love Cherry Guidry's new Kitchen Love collection for Contempo. Scroll down to read more about her inspiration and see the patterns available using these fun prints.

Where did the idea for Kitchen Love originate?
I had been wanting to make a furniture or house-themed line and the kitchen was the first thing I thought of. It’s all about heart and home. Home is important to me. It’s the place where everyone gets together, shares their lives.

Tell us about some of the kitchen items included in these prints.
A lot of the stuff you’ll find in my kitchen. I have a white stand mixer and I just love it. I thought I needed an aqua one because I love aqua—this collection seemed like the perfect place to get an aqua one without buying one.
The little timer and the scale—I have ones just like them.
I like tea, so I included tea pots and tea cups.

How did you develop your color palette?
Of course aqua/turquoise always makes it in. But I also wanted to incorporate a little more deeper color. One of the main prints and one of the word prints have a black background. I still used the lighter colors too, and they coordinate with previous lines. Some of the beaded circles are the same colors as in Sunday Ride, and then we added in a few new colors—red and fuchsia. These darker colors provide options for a more traditional feel to your quilt.

Tell us about all these fun coordinates!
I created the scallop looking print to look like stacking plates.
My husband thinks the daisy print looks like candy corn.

I love word prints—I was excited to include it here. I looked for cute fonts and incorporated words having to do with the kitchen and backing, and then added in items from the other prints, like the spoon and rolling pin.

What’s your favorite print?
The apron print. I love how it turned out with the shadowing effect behind the aprons. I made a little wall hanging with aprons in it. I got onto an apron kick. And of course the panel for this collection is an apron.

Quilt Market Booth Tour: Contempo

Welcome to day 1 of our three-day Quilt Market booth tour. Last weekend, we were in Salt Lake City sharing our newest fabric collections from Benartex, Kanvas and Contempo with quilt shop owners. Now we're ready to give you a sneak peek so you know what to watch for (and ask for!) at your local quilt shops.

First up, Contempo.

Here's a look at the full Contempo section. We highlighted three main lines: Kitchen Love by Cherry Guidry, Sparkle by Amanda Murphy, and Lemon Squeezy by Holly Helgeson

Cherry in her booth. Her new collection, Kitchen Love, is exactly what the name suggests: lots of love for all things kitchen-related! And of course, with Cherry, you'll see plenty of whimsical applique and embroidery work as well.

Sweet hand towels and a cupcake wall hanging:

Table toppers, wall hangings, a purse, a pillow and more:

Love the main quilt in the booth--so much detailed and beautiful applique and embroidery design!

This beautiful wall hanging uses the text print as the background:

Next up is Amanda Murphy's new collection, Feathers & Flourishes. This line features Amanda's well-loved feathers and flourishes, as well as intricate medallions! Don't forget dots, a fancy stripe, and geometric prints--great coordinates or stand alone prints.
Here's Amanda in the booth:

And a closer look at this medallion-style quilt, built out from an appliqued center motif.

Quilts, pillows, sundresses, a sunhat, a tuffet...so much fun!

And last but not least, Lemon Squeezy by Holly Helgeson! This summery line is full of lime, bright pinks, and happy yellows. The prints include lemons (obviously!) and lemonade, but also an adorable pennant print, text print, and a cool chevron stripe. Think of Lemon Squeezy as an upgrade on your childhood lemonade stand ambitions.

Check back tomorrow, when we'll continue our Quilt Market booth tour.
