We Love Our Pets Week

Back in the fall, we joined with Petfinder to raise awareness for shelter pets through the Piece for Shelter Pets initiative.

Piece for Shelter Pets is making another push, and we're excited to be hosting We Love Our Pets Week here on the blog to join in the fun! We'll be sharing some of our favorite pet-themed fabric collections, showing a magazine project made with the Joey the Shop Dog fabric, and then sharing a special tutorial by Rose Ann Cook for making a small dog quilt. Join us today on National Pet Day as we celebrate our furry friends, and if you're considering a pet, we urge you to visit your local shelter!

Crafty Cats

Cat lovers, this line is for you! Crafty Cats by Cheryl Haynes features your favorite feline friends. Comfy, cozy, and oh-so-cute! The collection includes a panel of cat blocks and a huge variety of coordinating prints.

We asked Cheryl to give us some background on the Crafty Cats collection:

With a line like Crafty Cats, we have to ask: Are you a cat owner?
I used to have cats—I had a cat for years and years and just figured I had seasonal allergies. I’m allergic to them—once we lost our cat, I didn’t get another one. I do still like them though!

What makes cats so fun for a fabric line?
There are so many different styles of dogs, but all cats basically look the same. So instead, I changed the color. I really like the blue and green with the cats. It’s a different color palette.

How did you design this line?
I’m a doodler. I hand draw my designs to start with and play around with different ideas. In this case, much of my playing was in the colors—how to make the cats look different through their coloring.

Tell us about the panel.
It’s cats in all their favorite places. I really do love the blue cats! The one thing that’s different about this panel is I normally try to keep each block in the panel separate. But in this panel, the sleeping cat has a tail that extends into the block below.

Tell us about the blenders.

I think the leaf dance is a really pretty fabric. I also like the thread dot. They’re great blenders. I like to design lines with a lot of different shades of the same color because you can do so much with them in a quilt.
