Benny is back!!

Whew! We are relieved to announce that Benny has returned!
(If you missed the story of Benny's kidnapping, read it here.)

While waiting for the expected ransom note, Benny's coworkers had prepared a fabric payment--after all, who but a fabric lover would kidnap this sweet, cuddly pup? Here's Benny posing with the potential ransom; scroll down to find out how Benny returned (without having to pay a ransom!).

After five days of handing out "missing" signs and searching for Benny on social media, and even in the streets of New York, there had been no word from the kidnappers. The office was bereft. Then, Monday morning, Benny mysteriously reappeared in the Benartex office, wrapped in a plastic bag.

The accompanying note claimed that he'd been discovered in a crate from Quilt Market that had been delayed in its return to the New York offices--that no kidnapping had ever occurred.

However...based on rumors buried in the back pages of the supermarket tabloids (we told you Benny had become famous!) and some enlightening photos on social media sites that have since been taken down, we have a different theory on why it took Benny five extra days to get home:

He sure gets around!

If only dogs could talk...

*************************************************************
Regardless of what really happened, we are grateful that Benny has been returned. He would have been worth every fat quarter we had collected for the ransom. Since we never had to pay it, we're sharing some of those fat quarters with one lucky person who participated in the "I found Benny" contest.

 The randomly drawn winner is:

Mary D. from St. Louis, MO

Congratulations!

Benny at Market (with a cliffhanger ending!)

If you've been a follower of ours for a while, you may remember our good friend Benny.

Twice a year he attends Quilt Market with his Benartex coworkers. His short legs mean that he can't run to catch the flight to Houston, so they are nice enough to give him a ride through the airport.

His coworkers also ensure that he's well fed so he has the energy he needs to perform his numerous duties at the show.

While in Houston, Benny takes on a supervisory role, overseeing the booth set-up and ensuring each quilt is hung straight.

He sat on fat quarter bundles and quilt kits at Sample Spree, making sure that latecomers to this wonderful free-for-all sale could still find fabric to buy.

During the show, he introduced himself to customers, encouraging them to purchase his favorite fabric collections (hint: he's a fan of anything with dogs on it) and posed for photos among the various vignettes in the Benartex, Kanvas and Contempo booths.

Here Benny poses among the larger-than-life fabric lollipops from Kanvas' Bright Ideas booth (which won First Place, Best Double Booth award...more on that in another post!).

Relaxing on a park bench in the idyllic Our Town fabric scene, from the award-winning Contempo Studio booth (more on the booth design and its "Best Creativity Award" later as well!).

And maybe a little bicycle riding...

It's a doggone exhausting job, but somebody's got to do it!

This year, however, things escalated to a whole new level. Benny's celebrity status reached new heights. He started making appearances on Instagram.

He rode around Houston on a Bentley.

When his Benartex coworkers returned to work after the show, and went to unpack Benny (even with his celebrity status, he still didn't get a first class seat on the plane!), they couldn't find him. They began posting signs.

It soon became clear that some nefarious characters decided to capitalize on his celebrity by kidnapping him! His coworkers are currently awaiting contact about the ransom--they expect to have to pay it in fabric!

Help us look for Benny! He's hidden once on the Benartex website and three times on the Facebook page. Send the locations of all 4 Benny sightings (what page on the website and the names of the 3 fabric lines he's hidden in our Facebook page) plus your name and mailing address to socialmedia23 (at) gmail.com with the subject line "I found Benny." The contest ends Monday November 3rd at 11:59 pm EST. On Tuesday we'll randomly draw one winner from the emails to receive a fabric prize as a thank you for your investigative help.

Benartex booth: A little bit of something for everyone!

The final day of our post-Quilt Market tour, showing off the Benartex collections:

The main Benartex booth showcases a wide variety of new collections by our talented designers.

Caryl Bryer Fallert-Gentry's Electric Feather collection feature in the free pattern "It's Electrifying!" by Wendy Sheppard. Pieced by Sherry McConnell and quilted by Ebony Love

Paula Nadelstern's Palindrome, showcased in a gallery of twelve art quilts made by Paula's contemporaries.

This cake looks almost good enough to eat!
From Nancy Halvorsen's This N' That collection and new book from Art to Heart, "Table Please."

The fresh, spring-y florals of Ambrosia, showcased in "Ambrosia Star" by TailorMade by Design

The "Sweet Carolina"quilt by Tailormade by Design features the Sweet Tweet collection.

You'll soon find this pattern free on our website. It's called "Flying My Way" and was made by Tailormade by Design using the Birds of a Feather collection.

"Father Frost Trees" by Jackie Robinson using her first Christmas collection, Father Frost

It's fun to show off smaller sewing projects too, like this quilted dog jacket made from Doodle Dog by Maria Kalinowski for Kanvas Studio.

The "back side" of the Kanvas booth: haring new Kanvas ads (yes, that's a take-off on I Dream of Jeannie, promoting Bohemian Rhapsody by Maria Kalinowski for Kanvas Studio). The shelves are stacked with inspiration that we share with shop owners...plenty of small sewing projects (like the dog jacket above) created from our fabrics.

And we can't forget Benny! He attended Market with us and kept showing up amidst piles of fat quarters. We're starting to think he might be addicted to fabric too...

Meditating in the Sakura booth (and eating sushi cupcakes?!?!):

Filling up with pre-holiday cheer:

Ready to celebrate, or at least sample the cake:

Keeping watch over fat quarter bundles of Palm Court by Michele D'Amore for Benartex:

Wearing the cutest little backpack made by Sisters' Common Thread made from Greta Lynn's Down Under collection from Kanvas.

And finally the Alley Cat tent (made by Sisters' Common Thread) where he hunkered down each night to rest after a long day as Benartex's poster dog.
