If you loved Amanda Murphy's Carina and Sparkle collections, make sure you grab some of her new collection, Feathers & Flourishes. Learn more about her designs below.
What inspired the Feathers
& Flourishes collection?
It started with a panel I did for Bernina—a feather motif
for free motion quilting. The idea went off in its own direction and became
this fabric line.
Tell us about your color palette.
The greens and blues from all my lines are the same. This
collection also brings in the gray from Sparkle and a navy as well. If you took
the pinks from my earlier lines and deepened them, you’d have the red in
Feathers & Flourishes. I think this collection lets people push their
skills with color to a new level.
What distinguishes this collection from others?
The really deep tones. Carina was pretty, this is dramatic. I
wanted to really push the color palette. I designed it thinking about quilts
where you could take one or two fabrics, switch them out, and get a completely
different look.
For example, my Plume quilt uses the same stack of 10”
squares for the blocks. The only difference is the borders and the background
print (see the three colorways below). It’s more dramatic.
Star Struck is my favorite pattern because of the quilting
possibilities. It uses a pinwheel of pre-cut strips.
Tell us about some of these prints.
There is a lot of opportunity with these fabrics to fussy
cut different motifs, such as the medallions and the orange peels.
The stripe is really good for binding.
