Christmas in July: Frosty Forest

We're kicking off Christmas in July here at Sew in Love with Fabric! This week we are showcasing our new holiday collections, and next week we'll be hosting a blog hop of holiday-themed tutorials.

Today we're sharing Frosty Forest by Cherry Guidry.

This sweet line features a panel showing a group of frosty friends celebrating the season and a bunch of fun coordinates. We asked Cherry to tell us more about her new collection.

What inspired the Frosty Forest collection?
I am crazy about owls and Christmas is my favorite time of year, so a fabric collection that combined the two was my inspiration. Sam, the little owl, celebrates the holidays with Frosty snowman and his sweet woodland friends… a raccoon, squirrel, fox, and little birds, all gathered in the woods to share the holiday spirit.

Did you design the panel first? Can you talk about the different scenes in the panel? What do you envision it being used for?
The panel was the first design in the collection and started it out with a curly Christmas tree filled with ornaments… imagine that in the middle of the forest! After several revisions, Frosty took center stage and became the focus of the panel. One of my favorite elements in the design are the winter trees and the little deer, as well as the smaller blocks that surround the center panel. I think the panel would make a lovely wall hanging on its own, or the different blocks could be used independently as table toppers, mug rugs, pillows, etc., or fuzzy cut to be used as the center of a block, surrounded by sashing or more intricate piecing as part of a larger quilt.

What is your favorite print and why?
A favorite… that’s a difficult one, but I’d have to say my first favorite in the collection would have to be the stripe, perfect for borders, fussy cutting… it would be so cute as an apron or in a little girl’s dress; it would also make a fun stack-n-whack quilt… so many possibilities.

Tell us about the color palette you used.
My favorite color since childhood has been green, any bright, vibrant green, followed by aqua, so add a little red and you have a fresh, fun Christmas palette, of course, I had to have a touch orange to add a little pop of color.

Would you share some of the patterns and other things you've designed to go with the fabrics?
I have three new appliqué patterns using Frosty Forest and an embroidery collection digitized by OESD called Frosty Forest; all my patterns are also available with SVG files to be cut with an electronic cutter such as the Silhouette Cameo. Here are a few of my favorites:

Frosty is a wall hanging that is fun and quick:

Frosty’s Wonderland is a large throw that has a little hand embroidery and can be embellished with buttons, also available as a Block of the Month is several shops now:

Let it Snow is a tree skirt that would also make a lovely table topper, with a little hand embroidery and available carrot, mittens, stars, and tiny buttons made to coordinate:

Thanks, Cherry!
