Holiday Week Tute: 70s with a Modern Twist!

The week between the holidays often seems to be a week in limbo...some people are at work, some aren't, some are traveling and most are simply biding their time until New Year's Eve for another chance to celebrate. 

We thought we'd help this limbo week pass more quickly with a quick and easy tutorial--the Manly Quilt from Penny of Sew Take a Hike. She embraced her inner 70s child and gave it a modern twist to create a simple patchwork tied 

quilt with men in mind, using a few prints from Bellissimo, all 24 colors of Burlap, and the plaid taupe from Paintbox/Shadows.

Lady of Guadalupe

Lady of Guadalupe is one of the most beloved images in Hispanic culture and is very well-known within the Catholic faith as well. In the Catholic faith, the feast day for Our Lady of Guadalupe is today, December 12th. 

The Lady of Guadalupe collection from Kanvas celebrates this religious and cultural icon in fabric, along with coordinating prints of artistically rendered packed roses and decorated crosses.

A little more information: 
"Our Lady of Guadalupe (Spanish: Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe), also known as the Virgin of Guadalupe (Spanish: Virgen de Guadalupe), is a title of the Virgin Mary associated with a celebrated pictorial image housed in the Basilica of Our Lady of Guadalupe in México City. The basilica of Our Lady of Guadalupe is the most visited Catholic site in the world, and the third-most visited sacred site in the world." (source)

Guys' Week Fabrics

It's no secret that quilting and sewing are female-dominated art forms. From "girly" floral fabrics to the stereotype of grandmas making quilts, it can seem like there's not much out there for the guys to embrace. That's why it's been fun to see more guys get in on the fun over the past few years. It's also been fun to find more and more fabric designs with a "manly" appeal.
