Bree Blog Hop: Day 3

Welcome to our Bree blog hop! We're excited to show you what four different designers have created with the Nancy Halvorsen's gorgeous new fabric collection! If you missed our introduction to Bree, find it here.

Today Kristen from KD-Quilts is here sharing a clever picnic placemat she created. (Doesn't the check in the Bree collection just scream "picnic" to you?!) Check out her tutorial and head over to her blog for a chance to win some Bree fat quarters.

Here's Kristen:
Hello!! I'm a stay at home mom of two boys who keep me busy. In my spare time I quilt. My specialty is memory quilts, but I LOVE playing with pretty fabrics and designing things to make my home cozy and colorful.

I love this line: Bree by Nancy Halvorsen for Benartex Fabrics. It screams summertime to me! This print is my most favorite. I'm thinking some major yardage is going to be needed.

Today I want to share a super easy, super summer picnic placemat tutorial with you all. My biggest struggle with eating outside is my napkin flying away. These placemats are sure to take away picnic troubles...if only I could take care of the flies!

Materials (tutorial for one placemat)
2 assorted fat quarters: 2 colors for the front
2 additional fat quarters (or 1/2 yard) for back and binding
Batting

Cutting
From the check:
(2) 2.5" squares
(1) 2.5" x 12" strips
(1) 2.5" x 8" strip
(1) 4" x 8" piece for pocket

From the red print:
(2) 2.5" squares
(1) 2.5" x 12" strips
(1) 2.5" x 8" strip
(1) 12" x 8" rectangle

Binding:
Enough 2-1/4" wide strips to create a 90" long binding strip

Layout:

A picture speaks way more than text! The 12" strips are at the top, 8" strips are on the right, and the 2.5" squares are in the upper right corner.

Sewing:
1. Assemble the four-patch of 2.5" squares. Next, sew the two 8" x 2.5" strips together and attach to bottom of the four-patch.
2. Sew both 12" x 2.5" strips together and attach to the long edge of the 12" x 8" red rectangle.
3. Sew the unit from step 1 to the unit from step 2.
4. Fold down 1/4" on the top and side of the check napkin pocket as shown. Press. Stitch across the top edge to create a finished edge. Set aside.

5. Layer placemat top with backing and batting. Quilt as desired.
6. Baste the pocket to the bottom and left side of the placemat, matching raw edges. Topstitch the right side of the napkin, securing it to the placemat.  Bind. Cook your burgers and enjoy!

The rest of the Bree line is currently being turned into a placemat set with matching runner. I can't wait for the next backyard BBQ! Thanks, Benartex fabrics for inviting me to the Bree blog hop!

Thanks, Kristen!

We can't wait to see your table runner and remaining placemats! Head over to Kristen's blog to enter for a chance to win a bundle of select Bree fat quarters.

Make sure to follow along on all four days of our Bree hop!

  10. I felt like ending it i lost my husband to another woman 2 weeks ago after 27 years of marriage. We had a lovely marriage but he started a relationship with a co worker who chased after him. He is living away near his work, and he refuses to talk to me or to come home . I am devastated and am finding it hard to cope i was emotionally down . I wish I did not love him and that I could move on but I can't . I don't know how to stop feeling like this I wish I could and its eating me away and I'm starting to feel ill. I have degraded myself begging him to come home all to no avail. I became very worried and needed help. As I was browsing through the internet one day, I came across a website that suggested that Dr Ogudugu can help solve marital problems, restore broken relationships and I also came across several testimonies about this particular man so on. So, I felt I should give him a try. I contacted him and he did a spell for me. 24 hours later, my husband came to me and apologized for the wrongs he did and promise never to do it again. Ever since then, everything has returned back to normal. I and my family are living together happily again.. All thanks to Dr Ogudugu . If you need a spell caster that can cast a spell that truly works, I suggest you contact him. He will not disappoint you. if you have any problem contact him, I give you 100% guarantee that he will help you, This is his details, E-mail: GREATOGUDUGU@GMAIL.COM. Thank you all for reading.
